Afghanistan presidential palace in rocket attack

A rocket struck the presidential palace in Kabul this morning and a second hit the Afghan capital's police headquarters, just two days before a presidential election that the Taleban has vowed to disrupt. No one was hurt in either attack, but the first rocket caused some damage inside the heavily fortified palace compound in the city centre where President Hamid Karzai lives with his family. Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taleban spokesman, claimed that militants had fired four rockets at the capital. He gave no further details. It was the second rocket attack on the capital so far this month, and came just three days after a Taleban suicide bomber struck the headquarters of foreign forces in Kabul, killing seven Afghans and wounding scores. That was the biggest assault on the capital since February.
