India signs arms accord with US
A pact between India and the United States has been signed in New Delhi allowing the sale of sophisticated US arms to India. The agreement was signed by Hillary Clinton during her first trip to India as the US secretary of state.
Clinton said that India has also approved two sites for the construction of US nuclear reactors. US officials estimate that the nuclear sites would be worth up to $10 billion in business for US nuclear-reactor builders such as General Electric and Westinghouse.
US weapons contractors, such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing, are competing for plans by New Delhi to buy 126 multi-role fighters. Both military corporations were large donors to Clinton's failed campaign for US president.
