December 19 Baghdad * A US soldier is killed by a roadside bomb. * Two children are wounded when gunmen open fire on a minibus. * Two civilians are killed and an Iraqi police colonel, two of his bodyguards and five civilians are wounded by a suicide car bomber targeting the colonel's convoy. * Three bodyguards for the city's deputy governor are killed by gunmen targeting the governor. Balad * Two Iraqi contractors traveling to a US military base are killed by gunmen and one other person is wounded in the attack. Basra * An adviser to the defense minister escapes assassination when a makeshift bomb targets his convoy and wounds three of his bodyguards. Miqdadiya * Four civilians are wounded by a car bomb. Tikrit * One man is killed and another is wounded while trying to plant a bomb. December 20 Baghdad * The Jordanian ambassador to Iraq is kidnapped by gunmen. December 21 Baghdad * A senior official in the Ministry of Agriculture is wounded and his driver is killed by gunmen. Baquba * One Iraqi is killed and six others who worked at a US military base are wounded by gunmen. December 22 Baghdad * A US soldier is killed by a bomb while on patrol. December 23 Adhaim * Ten Iraqi soldiers and a civilian are killed and 21 others wounded when an army base is attacked by gunmen with machineguns and rocket-propelled grenades. Baghdad * Two US soldiers are killed by a roadside bomb. * Six Sudanese citizens, including a diplomat, are kidnapped. Balad Ruz * Ten people are killed and four others wounded by a suicide bomber entering a Shiite mosque. Baquba * At least nine people are killed and twenty others wounded in an attack on a checkpoint. * The bodies of three unidentified people are found bound, blindfolded and shot dead. * A roadside bomb targeting a British army convoy explodes. December 24 Baghdad * A US soldier is killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack while on patrol. * Seven bodies of civilians with bullet wounds are found. * Three Ministry of Health employees are shot dead when gunmen open fire on their car. * Two people are killed, including an aide to the Ministry of Justice, when gunmen open fire on their car. Falluja * A Lieutenant of the Iraqi army is shot dead when gunmen break into his house and open fire. Hilla * Saboteurs blow up an oil pipeline with a makeshift bomb. Kirkuk * One civilian is killed and three others are wounded by a roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi army patrol. Samarra * Four suspected insurgents are killed when a mortar round they are attempting to fire detonates prematurely. December 25 Baghdad * A US soldier is killed by a roadside bomb. * Three soldiers and eight civilians are wounded by a car bomb. * Three policemen are wounded by a car bomb targeting their patrol. * A US tank is blasted by a roadside bomb. Duluiya * US forces kill three insurgents when they attack the soldiers with small arms fire. Kirkuk * One civilian is killed and seven others are wounded by a car bomb targeting a police patrol. * One gunman is killed when gunmen attack the motorcade of a police colonel. Mahmudiya * Two Iraqi soldiers are killed and six others wounded by a mortar round fired at an Iraqi military base. Mosul * A police officer is killed by a makeshift bomb targeting a police patrol. * The body of the president of the Student's Union of Mosul University, is found shot dead two days after he was abducted by gunmen.
