Baghdad *At least 12 Iraqis are killed and 15 others wounded when a suicide bomber boards a crowded bus and blows himself up. *A US soldier is killed by a roadside bomb while on combat patrol. *At least two Iraqis are killed and 11 wounded by a car bomb targeting a local government official. *At least 19 laborers who had gathered are wounded by a bomb. *Eleven people are wounded including two foreign contractors by two roadside bombs. *Two policemen are wounded by a roadside bomb. Mosul *At least six Iraqis are killed and 21 wounded when a suicide bomber targeting police detonates his explosives inside a crowded restaurant. Iskandariya *A policeman is wounded by a roadside bomb. February 21 Al Riyadh *Four Iraqi soldiers are wounded by a roadside bomb targeting a joint Iraqi-US patrol. Baghdad *Six civilians are wounded by a mortar round. *Two police commandos are killed and four people wounded, including a civilian, by a roadside bomb. *Two civilians are wounded by a roadside bomb targeting a US patrol. *A policeman is killed by a roadside bomb. *Twenty-three people are killed and 28 wounded by a car bomb explosion in a market. Baquba *Three policemen are wounded by a roadside bomb. Iskandariya *A roadside bomb explodes near a pick-up truck carrying workers, killing one and wounding two. *One civilian is killed and two are wounded, including a judge, when gunmen attack the judge. Kirkuk *The son and daughter of the head of police headquarters are wounded while he escapes from an attempt on his life. February 22 Al-Mashrugiya *Two children and a woman are killed and four people wounded by a roadside bomb near a primary school. Baghdad *Three clerics and three bodyguards are killed, and another cleric is kidnapped when at least 27 Sunni mosques and an office for the Iraqi Islamic Party are attacked by gunmen after a bomb blast in Samarra. Balad *Seven US soldiers are killed in two roadside bomb attacks. Basra *Gunmen attack a Sunni mosque with rocket propelled grenades. *Local police shoot-outs erupt between the militiamen of Shiite cleric al-Sadr and members of the Iraqi Islamic Party. Basra *Shia militiamen storm a prison and lynch at least eleven Sunni inmates, including two Egyptians. Baquba *Two police officers are killed by gunmen. *Four bodyguards for the head of a provincial criminal court are killed by gunmen. Diwaniya *Clashes erupt after al-Sadr militiamen attack the houses of Sunnis. Falluja *Three Iraqi contractors working for the US army are abducted by gunmen. Hasswa *Four policemen are wounded by a roadside bomb. Samarra *A bomb attack shatters a sacred Shiite shrine igniting protests in several cities. February 23 Baghdad *At least 47 people are killed, say police. *A curfew is imposed on the city as well as three neighboring provinces prohibiting people on the streets after 6pm. Samarra *Three al-Arabiya journalists are killed. Baquba *One person is killed when gunmen in two cars open fire on a Sunni mosque. February 24 Baghdad *Gunmen attack Sunni mosques including a revered shrine. *One Iraqi soldier is killed at a check- point. *Shiite militiamen clash with insurgents and Iraqi security forces trying to enforce a curfew are helpless to stop them. Baiji *A bomb tears open an oil pipeline, disrupting supplies for about three days. Kirkuk *Gunmen kill a member of the Badr militia. Tuz Khormatu *Gunmen kill a Shiite cleric. Latifiya *Gunmen storm a house and kill two Shiite men and a woman and wound two children. February 25 Baghdad *At least three members of Iraq's security forces are killed during the funeral procession of a journalist. *Three people are killed and six wounded by mortar and rocket fire. Tikrit *The body of a police officer with gunshot wounds is found near his home. Karbala *At least eight people are killed and 31 wounded by a car bomb near a street market. Baquba *Twelve members of a Shiite family are killed by gunmen. *Four militants are killed and 17 arrested when clashes erupt between Iraqi troops and Sunni militants. Baghdad *Gunmen fire on the house of the head of Iraq's leading Sunni religious organization. *Fourteen bodies of police commandos are found near a besieged mosque. February 26 Baghdad *Two US soldiers are killed by a roadside bomb. *A US soldier is killed by small-arms fire. Hilla *Five people are killed and three wounded by a bomb in a bus station. Madaen *One police officer is killed and two wounded by a roadside bomb. Basra tA bomb explodes in a toilet near a Shiite shrine.
