Nassiriya * Two policemen are killed and more than 30 people are wounded when a suicide car bomber attacks the police headquarters. * An Italian soldier is injured when his convoy comes under attack. Ramadi * Two insurgents and a woman are killed when insurgents clash with US forces. January 31 Muqdadiya * The wife of an Imam of a Sunni mosque and her two infants are killed when gunmen break into her house and open fire. Tarfiya * Four Iraqi soldiers are killed and another wounded in a clash with insurgents. Umm Qasr * A British soldier is killed and three other soldiers are wounded by an explosion. February 1 Amiriyah * One civilian is killed and two others wounded by a roadside bomb attack targeting a US patrol. Baghdad * Three US soldiers are killed in a roadside bomb attack. * A US soldier is killed in a small-arms attack. * At least eight men waiting for work are killed and 50 others wounded by a bomb blast. * One civilian is killed and another wounded when caught in the crossfire between police and insurgents. * Two Iraqi correspondents working for a satellite television channel are kidnapped by gunmen. Baquba * One civilian is killed and three others wounded by a roadside bomb. Falluja * A US marine is fatally wounded in combat. Hit * Two children are killed during a gunfight between Iraqi security forces and insurgents. Tal Afar * Two Iraqi soldiers are killed and four wounded by mortars fired at the local Iraqi army headquarters. Tuz Khurmatu * Four Iraqi soldiers are wounded by a roadside bomb. February 2 Baghdad * At least 16 people are killed and 90 others wounded by two car bombs at a market and a gas station. * A US soldier is killed by a roadside bomb. * A US helicopter fires rockets into a crowded Shiite neighborhood after the aircraft was fired on, killing a young woman and wounding others including a young child. * A woman is killed during a clash between the Shiite Mehdi army and US forces. * A high ranking official at the industry ministry is kidnapped on her way to work. * The body of a policeman kidnapped the previous day is found riddled with bullets. * The bullet-riddled bodies of 14 Sunni Arab men purportedly seized by police a week ago are found. Basra * A police major is wounded and his driver killed by gunmen. Kirkuk * An oil facility is attacked with mortars and set ablaze. Mosul * A policeman is killed and five others wounded by a roadside bomb attack. Shirqat * The head of the town's council is attacked by gunmen who kill his driver and wound his bodyguard. February 3 Hit * Joint Iraq-US forces kill four insurgents after they are attacked during a patrol. Kirkuk * A translator working with the US army is shot dead by gunmen. * A policeman and a civilian are kidnapped by gunmen. February 4 Baghdad * One civilian is killed and two others wounded by a roadside bomb targeting a US patrol. * Two policemen are wounded in a roadside bomb attack. Kirkuk * Five policemen are wounded by a roadside bomb. Nassiriya * Three people are killed by a gunman who fires into a crowd of marching Shiites. Ramadi * A Sunni tribal leader is murdered a day after taking part in talks with US and Iraqi officials aimed at curbing violence. February 5 Al-Anbar province * Four US marines are killed in two roadside bomb attacks. Baghdad * Five civilians and a policeman are killed and five others wounded by a series of roadside bombs. * Two policemen are wounded in a shootout with gunmen. Basra * The assistant manager of a prison is killed by gunmen. Dujail * The body of an Iraqi contractor who had been working with US forces is found. Baiji * A policeman is shot dead by gunmen. Kirkuk * Two policemen are killed in a shootout with gunmen. Falluja * An Iraqi soldier is killed and two others wounded by a roadside bomb and two civilians are wounded in subsequent gunfire. Mosul * Two civilians are wounded by a suicide car bomber targeting a US patrol. Salman Pak * Two policemen are killed and seven people wounded by a car bomb near a police checkpoint.
