'Joe the Plumber' to head to Israel to become war correspondent
The Ohio man who emerged as the Republican Party's poster boy for the American working man after asking Barack Obama about his tax plan, is heading to Israel as a war correspondent for a conservative website called Pajamas TV.
Dubbed "Joe the Plumber" by John McCain's campaign, Samuel "Joe" Wurzelbacher was held up as an example of the middle-class American worker who would be hurt economically by the election of Obama.
Wurzelbacher, 34, says he will spend 10 days covering the fighting in Gaza and explaining why Israeli forces are mounting attacks against Hamas.
He told WNWO-TV in Toledo, Ohio, that he wants "go over there and let their 'Average Joes' share their story".
After challenging the Democratic candidate on his tax plans, it emerged that America's favorite "Average Joe" was not a licensed plumber after all, but MWurzelbacher capitalized on his new-found fame by signing up with an agent.
Since making appearances with McCain on the campaign trail, Joe has promoted his political watchdog group and book.
At one stop on the campaign trail, Wurzelbacher agreed with a McCain supporter who asked if he believed a vote for Obama was a vote for the death of Israel.
