Lawyer: Settle BSE suit or face long wait
Cattle producers need to pressure the federal government to settle a class action suit that aims to recoup losses caused by the bovine spongiform encephalitis outbreak, the lead lawyer in the case said Saturday.
Otherwise, it will be 10 years before the case winds its way through the legal system.
Cameron Pallett made the statement in a telephone interview from Bible Hill. He was attending the Nova Scotia Cattle Producers annual general meeting.
In the interview, he said he was working hard on behalf of the 135,000 Canadian cattle farmers whose livelihoods were adversely affected by the disease, which is also known as BSE or mad cow disease.
