One day in Iraq - Aug. 8

This is a compilation of violent incidents in Iraq on one day. Gunmen shot dead a town official and wounded two of his bodyguards in al-Multaqa, southwest of Kirkuk. Eight people were killed and 50 more wounded when a suicide car bomb exploded in the middle of the city of Ramadi. The death toll from three explosions at a busy market in the centre of Iraq's south province Basra on August 7th had reached 43 killed and 185 wounded by August 8th. A suicide bombing in Halabsa outside Falluja left seven wounded. A suicide car bomb went off near a police patrol, killing two civilians and wounding 11 in Saqlawiya district in Falluja. A second suicide bomber detonated his car bomb in a checkpoint in Al Halabsa area in Fallujah killing two policemen and injuring nine civilians. Two people were killed and nine wounded when a parked car bomb exploded in northeastern Falluja. Nine homes nearby were destroyed. Two people were killed and seven others injured by a second parked car bomb inside a parking garage in Falljuah. Armed men using silenced weapons attacked a currency exchange merchant in northern Falluja, wounding him in his neck. He later died. Two people were killed and nine wounded in an assassination attempt via a bomb attack that targeted the convoy of the governor of Niniveh province. This happened in Mosul. The governor was not injured. Another roadside bomb wounded three police officers as they examined the scene of the previous explosion. A roadside bomb went off near an Iraqi army patrol, wounding three people, in northern Mosul. A woman was wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near a police patrol in western Mosul. Nine civilians were wounded, including women and children, when a hand grenade was thrown on a crowd of civilians in central Mosul. In eastern Mosul, three police officers were killed in clashes with militants. In the al Wahda neighborhood of Mosul, a bomb killed one man and injured his wife. A roadside bomb wounded two police officers close to a bus terminal in the southwestern area of Baghdad. Another roadside bomb wounded two police officers and a civilian, in northern Baghdad. A third roadside bomb went off near a police patrol, wounding four in northern Baghdad. A fourth roadside bomb wounded five civilians on Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad. A fifth roadside bomb went off in the al Mansoor neighborhood of Baghdad, but this caused no casualties. A sixth roadside bomb planted near the police department in the Ghazaliya district of western Baghdad exploded, killing two people and wounding ten. A seventh roadside bomb targeting a police patrol in central Baghdad and wounded three people. A car bomb exploded in a produce market in Baghdad and killed one person. A sticky bomb attached to a car in central Baghdad wounded the civilian who owned the car. A suicide car bomber struck a police patrol west of Baghdad and killed eight people, most of them civilians standing in line outside a post office to collect the monthly stipend for the country's poorest.
