Zelaya supporters gather in Honduras' 2 biggest cities
Thousands of supporters of deposed President Mel Zelaya gathered Tuesday in this capital and in Honduras' second city, San Pedro Sula, to demand the reinstatement of the elected head of state.
"The resistance movement that demands the return of President Zelaya will not surrender," peasant leader Juan Barahona told Efe, predicting crowds of around 20,000 each in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.
As of midday Tuesday, the number of Zelaya partisans protesting in the capital was around 4,000.
Barahona said the demonstrators gathered near the presidential palace in Tegucigalpa will remain there "until Manuel Zelaya comes back and the putschists leave power."
