Southern city of Kandahar reels under two bombing attacks

Afghan officials picked up the pieces Wednesday from the nation's deadliest bombing in more than a year as results dribbled out from an election overshadowed by Taliban intimidation. With the Taliban-led insurgency at record levels, the Islamist rebels were blamed for setting off a truck bomb in the heart of southern Kandahar city, killing up to 43 people and injuring 65, almost all civilians. A second explosion hit the city of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan, a day after more than 40 people there were killed in a truck bombing. Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr, reporting from the city, said Wednesday's blast was caused by a rocket, according to residents.
