'Wanted'-posters pastor convicted of stalking

Pro-choice activists on Tuesday applauded the conviction of a pastor who they say has been part of a decades-long history of domestic terrorism aimed at abortion providers. The Rev. Philip "Flip" Benham, director of Concord-based Operation Save America, was convicted Monday of stalking an N.C. doctor who performs abortions after distributing hundreds of "Wanted" posters with photos and names of Charlotte doctors. A Mecklenburg County district judge sentenced Benham to two years probation and ordered him to stay 300 feet away from clinics and 1,000 feet from at least one doctor's home. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office declined to discuss the case, citing the possibility of an appeal. "We're pleased with the verdict and feel like the doctor had the opportunity to express his fears and concerns," said Assistant District Attorney Bruce Lillie.
