A protester was killed and two injured after police opened fire on a pro-separatist demonstration in the southern province of Lahj on Thursday, witnesses said. They said police was trying to disperse protesters who gathered outside the local government building in Radfan district trying to raise a flag of the former south Yemen on the building. Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of two main cities in Lahj and the neighboring province of Dhalea to demand the release of members of the Southern Movement arrested by police during previous demonstrations, witnesses said. No clashes were reported from Dhalea. The Southern Movement wants the south of Yemen to secede from the north.
